From 16th to 17th December, 2015 the IEEE Student Branch JKU Linz did a trip to Munich to visit Rohde & Schwarz an international electronics group specialized in the fields of electronic test equipment, broadcast & media, cybersecurity and much more.

After a very comfortable trip by bus we arrived at the Jägershostel on the 16th at about 19:00, where we should spend our night. The next item on our agenda was a visitation of the famous “Münchner Hofbräuhaus” where we had Dinner. After a convivial evening with a few drinks we headed back to the hostel and went to bed.

On Wednesday we got up pretty early to catch the metro and to arrive at Rohde & Schwarz on time, where we met Carolin Hockenholz who led us through the day. Once we have reached the company we got some snacks and refreshments followed by a guided tour through their showroom held by Reinhold Krüger. There we could take a look on quite a lot of their products and we also got an idea of their different fields of application. Then their head of oscilloscope development Dr. Wolfgang Herbordt gave a speech about the design and development of their oscilloscopes where R&S is a pretty young contender on the market.

After lunch a question and answer session with Andreas Günther followed, where we could find out about career chances at R&S. The day ended with a talk given by a Christian Volle who told us about the everyday life of a hardware developer at R&S and the procedure how electrical and HF circuits are developed until they are ready for the market.

A special thanks goes to Mr. Robert Wallner who organized the complete trip with complete satisfaction of all contenders.
